Services

At Building Futures Galloway, we offer a range of varied services. Our work takes us everywhere. We take commissions to make bespoke green woodwork furniture, a staple of our workshop. We work on restoring a variety of historically significant buildings and restore these to their former glory using traditional construction methods such as using lime mortar and traditional roofing. We have received commissions to move and reinstate historical monuments including war memorials and ancient Celtic crosses. One of our main focusses is training courses, ranging from traditional green woodwork furniture making, heritage construction and traditional boat building to name but a few.

After recent success with the launch of the “Tholugher”, BFG is continuing to offer the craft of traditional Boatbuilding, under the tutoring of expert boatbuilder Gail McGarva! Please do get in touch if you are interested in learning more about this service.
At Building Futures Galloway, we don’t just build futures, we also build bridges. Here’s a wooden bridge we constructed for a new section of the Whithorn Way. This has allowed travellers pass safely on route and take in beautiful scenery.
A staple of our workshop is furniture making. Here we see Oscar teaching a high school pupil the art of hazel stool making using hazel coppiced by the team earlier in the year. We value the art of passing these skills on to the next generation.
We offer a wide range of training courses. Here we see a green woodwork stool making course for women and girls using traditional tools and methods. All went home with their own bespoke piece of furniture at the end of the course.
The conservation of historic buildings is important to us. Using traditional skills and materials we ensure these buildings are restored to their former glory using heritage construction methods, keeping endangered skills alive.
